The Queensland Government offers help and information for communities affected by major disasters such as flooding, severe storms and fires.

South East Queensland floods – May 2009

Severe weather and heavy rains have caused flooding in areas of South East Queensland during May 2009.

Disaster relief arrangements were activated making personal hardship grants available.

North/North West Queensland floods – January and February 2009

During January and February 2009 damaging floods affected the northern regions of Queensland.

Applications for assistance from the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal for the North and North West Queensland floods closed on 30 April 2009. Donations were accepted until 31 July 2009. Read information about tax receipts for donations.

Payment of disaster relief appeal funds is being administered by The Australian Red Cross, on behalf of the Queensland Government. For enquiries contact the Australia Red Cross (non-government site) on freecall 1800 733 111.

Residents recovering from the floods can access a range of help and advice, including personal hardship grants and Australian Government payments. Find out what help and advice is available to you.


South East Queensland storms – November 2008

In November 2008 areas of South East Queensland were damaged during severe storms.

The Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal for the South East Queensland storms closed on Friday 9 January 2009. Payment of disaster relief appeal funds is being administered by The Australian Red Cross, on behalf of the Queensland Government.
